[ it's hard to smile so he doesn't force it right away. aerith gives off the impression she doesn't need him to. he'll scoot to indicate she can sit. ]
[he's right! she does not need him to smile, but she does have a seat.]
Likewise. It's...scary out there, isn't it? [knowing something went so drastically wrong. but she's quiet for a moment before she bows her head.] I know things were a little different for you two, but...I'm sorry.
[ caelus doesn't know how to feel. people have perished before his very eyes before. every time, it hurts in some new way he didn't know a person could feel pain. ]
I want to know why he was on his own.
[ because surely someone would have helped him if he stuck with the group? ]
I heard he was with a lot of people in the cabin last night...do you think he'd be someone who would try to lead danger away if it was possible somebody else would be hurt?
[that's fair. she won't press it because again, things can be complicated.]
It's a little hard to really know someone without spending too much time with them. And from what it sounds like you weren't exactly traveling together. Right?
Right before I arrived here, I was losing a fight to him. He said he was going to use me to kill a bunch of people, but I guess that was a gamble and he didn't mean it. He was after something else and I was there.
[ caelus was convenient ]
While we were here, we agreed to work together. He said he'd show me he meant for us to get along.
[why are all protags the same and in the same situation, actually? she does not entirely look happy to hear this, frowning softly as she thinks.]
I guess that gives a little more context to some of the things he's said about what he's searching for. [...] Did you believe him? That he meant for you to get along going forward.
You have to give people some credit for trying, right? It can be hard to trust them when thinks are rocky, but we do have a common problem here. It sounds like you were beginning to work things out.
[ quiet, simply appreciating the presence of someone who seems to Get It. loss hurts and it weighs upon a person, but when you're an rpg playable character, there's no time for depression spirals. save that for your h/c fanfic. in the real-fake world, you keep moving forward no matter what. ]
I'll believe that Aventurine would have been my friend someday, if he'd stuck around. I'd have made him work for it.
[she does in fact get it. depending on where caelus's eyes drift, he may even notice a tiny scrawl on aerith's wrist that simply says loss. but she's not drawing attention to that either loss happens. bad things happen. all you can do is keep trying and carry on and carry the memories with you.]
I kind of get the feeling he would've liked the challenge. [just a little.] ...I don't know how, but we'll figure out how this happened. It seems directionless right now, but I think if we're all searching someone will come across a clue somewhere.
[or we can be thrown into a trial the next day. you know.]

I was still figuring out how he worked.
[ he can't defend aventurine's honor and he can't for sure said he'd have abandoned the rest of them to save his own skin (and fail) ]
